Performs prescribed treatments for patients with cardiopulmonary problems and delivers intensive respiratory care to critical patients with complex, involved disease states.
Assists physicians with performance of various procedures vital to resolving the cardiopulmonary disorders of patients.
Checks all new and repaired equipment before issuing for patient use; maintains records of the status of equipment and supplies; requests repairs to existing equipment.
Serves as resource to physicians, nurses, medical students, respiratory care students, lower-level respiratory care therapists, and other supportive staff.
Performs arterial blood gas collection and analysis, as well as instructing other personnel in blood gas collection.
Performs weaning and metabolic parameters.
Documents quality control and assurance reports.
Initiates verbal and written doctors' prescriptions for respiratory care patients; checks charts, verifies orders, recommends changes in orders, and validates patient services.
May assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license and accreditation with the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist plus one year of experience as a licensed certified respiratory therapist.
