Differs from the Respiratory Care Therapist 2-Certified by the absence of responsibility for independently performing prescribed respiratory therapy treatment under general supervision.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Performs prescribed treatments for patients with cardiopulmonary problems.

Assists in checking all new and repaired equipment before use in patient care.

Assists physicians with performance of various procedures.

Performs bedside collections of sputum specimens.

Initiates verbal and written doctor's prescriptions for respiratory care patientsm, checks charts, and verifies orders.

Performs simple bedside spirometry.

Performs arterial blood gas analysis.

May assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.





QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a temporary Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license; OR

Possession of a current Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license and accreditation with the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.

NOTES:
Permanent status cannot be granted to an employee holding temporary respiratory therapist licensure.
