To plan, organize, and direct a large and complex occupational therapy program.

Broad direction from administrative or medical official.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct line over subordinate Occupational Therapists.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Occupational Therapist Supervisor by total responsibility for management of a large and complex occupational therapy program.

Plans and directs a large or multiprogram occupational therapy department.

oversees occupational therapy services for an entire facility or institution.

Establishes department policies and procedures and coordinates department operations in collaboration with facility administration.

Reviews and establishes department goals and priorities, treatment services, executes changes, and oversees daily workings within the department.

Advises administrative personnel concerning department needs, goals, and future plans.
Develops areas of treatment services, research, and education to include monitoring policies and procedures developed by subordinate Occupational Therapists.

Supervises and trains professional and paraprofessional staff providing patient treatment.

May be responsible for supervision and training of occupational therapy student interns.

Assesses department staff training needs and coordinates in-service curriculum to develop staff professional growth.

Administratively supervises staff by approving leave, delegating work, evaluating performance, monitoring and reviewing work, and assisting in hiring staff.

Confers with other professional disciplines for appropriate integration of treatment goals.

Confers with other professionals outside state facility to coordinate occupational therapy services to maintain federal and community standards.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with management, other professional staff, and the community.

Prepares and reviews appropriate reports, statistics, and administrative guidelines for the department.

Oversees and manages supply and equipment inventory for entire department, orders all equipment and supplies, and coordinates updating of inventory records and clerical supplies.

May be responsible for direct treatment of small patient caseload, including evaluation, development, and implementation of treatment plan and goals.

Develops and adheres to Quality Assurance programs for department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Occupational Therapist license plus three years of experience as a licensed occupational therapist.
