To provide professional occupational therapy services.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a higher level Occupational Therapist or administrative official.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise direct line supervision over student interns. May exercise functional supervision over subordinate staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Occupational Therapist 1 by the presence of independent performance of duties and possession of a permanent Louisiana Occupational Therapist license. Differs from Occupational Therapist 3 by the absence of advanced-level duties such as aquatherapy, assistive technology, dysphagia, spasticity, low vision, hippotherapy/equine therapy, animal assisted therapy, and/or sensory processing/integration.

Plans and carries out individual treatments according to established professional practices, modifying procedures and equipment as circumstances warrant, and determining when each person has reached maximum potential.

Consults with physicians, nurses, or other health care providers in resolving problems concerning individual treatments.

Evaluates clients and patients to assess needs for occupational therapy in the areas of motor functioning, sensory integrative functioning, cognitive functioning, psychological functioning, and social functioning.

Provides direct and indirect training and supervision to professional occupational therapy interns at the therapist and assistant level.

Supervises and trains subordinate professional and paraprofessional staff.

Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; development and implementation of management policies for assigned special services; and the development and revision of the clinical education program of field work interns.

Assists in the management of supply levels and conveys equipment needs.

Develops and implements individualized treatment plans and sets goals leading to maximum potential.

Instructs and trains clients, patients, and family members in therapeutic techniques and activities leading to improved functioning.

Assists in developing and implementing management policies and in-service training sessions for assigned special services.

Participates in multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary staffing of all clients and patients to update treatment plans.

Interprets recommendations for occupational therapy referrals and gathers pertinent data on each client and patient.

Prepares and presents pertinent professional records and reports documenting rehabilitation progress.

Conducts home visits and collaborates with clients, patients, and family members in making recommendations for home accessibility.

Explains role of occupational therapy to other health care disciplines.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Occupational Therapist license.
