FUNCTION OF WORK:
To administer a major division or branch in the Office of Forestry.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Administrator

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Administrative direction from the Associate State Forester, direct from the Assistant Commissioner.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Forestry Branch Assistant Chief and clerical personnel and functional over professional and non-professional forestry personnel, when assigned to a program.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Forestry Branch Assistant Chief by the responsibility for administrative management of statewide programs.

Manages personnel in charge of statewide equipment and facilities in an assigned branch.

Acts as Assistant Commissioner's representative in coordinating activities with federal forestry agencies and other state forestry organizations.

Oversees special programs within an assigned branch.

Analyzes training needs and develops training methods and technicians for assigned branch.

Recommends modification of existing practices as related to activities in an assigned branch.

Establishes policies and procedures dealing with equipment assignment, maintenance, conditions, and standards.

Proposes and monitors branch budget and manages branch staff.

Plans, manages and coordinates branch programs.

Designs long and short range plans, goals, and objectives of programs.

Coordinates statewide branch activities through district foresters, federal and local government officials, private landowners, industry personnel, and other state agency personnel.

Authorizes the purchase, inventory and distribution of equipment, educational material, and information within an assigned branch.

Meets with state, federal, and local officials, private individuals, industry representatives and other forestry officials to discuss programs and/or information involving forestry programs and practices.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the supervisory level or above:

A bachelor’s degree in a forestry, wildlife habitat conservation, or natural resources field plus five years of experience as a forester; OR

A bachelor’s degree with thirty semester hours in a forestry, wildlife habitat conservation, or natural resources field plus five years of experience as a forester; OR

A master’s degree in a forestry, wildlife habitat conservation, or natural resources field plus four years of experience as a forester.
