FUNCTION OF WORK:To enforce all applicable laws on a state park, serve as an instructor, coordinate a law enforcement program on a district level, and/or provide interpretive duties.
OR
To serve as an assistant manager in the operation, maintenance and law enforcement activities of a Level 1 or Level 2 recreation area. Level 1 sites are characterized by low use and a limited variety and/or number of developed recreational facilities available such as camping, swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, etc. Level 2 sites are characterized by moderate to high use and by the variety/number of developed recreational facilities available such as camping, swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, etc.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a Park Manager or other administrator of the agency served.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May exercise functional supervision over lower level Park Rangers in the training situation. Project basis over all lower level employees and workers at a Level 1 and 2 recreation areas.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of State Parks.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from lower level Park Rangers by the presence of law enforcement coordination functions and training responsibilities, and/or interpretive responsibilities.
Differs from lower level Park Rangers at Level 1 and 2 sites by serving as the assistant manager.
Differs from Park Managers by lack of responsibility for managing a recreation area, preservation area or historic site.
Differs from other law enforcement positions by enforcement of laws applicable to facilities operated by the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.

Enforces federal, state and local laws and park rules and regulations; investigates incidents such as vandalism, accidents, and complaints which occur within the park; testifies in court; and cooperates with local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals.
Instructs other Rangers in firearms use, baton use, first-aid, and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Coordinates a law enforcement program on a district level.
Performs interpretive work as a function of routine duties and in conjunction with special events and activities conducted by the agency.
Assists in the planning, organization, direction and control of site level work activities on a Level 1 or 2 site which include administrative, maintenance, security, recreational and custodial services; develops and monitors budget recommendations for personnel services, equipment and materials; prepares purchase requests and makes needed purchases; maintains fiscal records; prepares reports and correspondence; establishes policies and procedures for park operations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in law enforcement, as a park ranger, or as a park manager plus possession of POST certification.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
1. Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
2. Willingness and ability to carry firearms.
3. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
