FUNCTION OF WORK:
To supervise personnel and activities in a research farm environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from higher-level personnel, usually professional researchers.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Line over lower-level research farm personnel.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from a Research Farm Manager 1 by limited amount of administrative and managerial tasks assigned, and the degree of technical complexity of research projects.

Differs from lower-level research farm position by the presence of supervision and technical expertise in farming operations.

Assigns and supervises work of employees concerned with livestock and crops, including care, evaluating and monitoring of health, propagating plants, equipment operation, and the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Maintains attendance records and compiles information for accident reports.

Maintains accurate records on research activities.

Discusses projects with professional researchers and instructs the precise carrying out of tasks by lower level employees according to project timeframes.

Handles complex aspects of livestock care and crop maintenance.

Calibrates and precisely adjusts equipment, calculates chemical application rates, and performs simple laboratory tests.

Performs comparable technical supervisory work in other agricultural research areas such as forestry, aqua cultural, agricultural engineering, etc..

Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in research farming or in farm management; OR

Four years of experience in farming; OR

Eighteen semester hours in an agricultural, plant science, or animal science field.
