FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform sewing, alterations, and mending duties in the maintenance of garments and linens and in the production of new articles.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Seamstress Supervisor, Laundry Supervisor, or Housekeeper Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Seamstress Supervisor by the lack of supervisory responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Performs general sewing, altering, and mending of garments and other linen items either by machine or by hand.

Follows sewing patterns and develops new patterns for use.

Takes measurements for items to be sewn, altered, or mended.

Cleans and oils sewing machines.

Cleans work area by sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash.

Assists the Seamstress Supervisor in providing work and procedure orientation to new seamstress employees.

Performs specialized sewing tasks such as pattern design and use.

Performs any other related duties necessary for the efficient operation of the sewing room.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year experience as an institutional or commercial seamstress; OR

Twelve semester hours in a sewing or closely related course.
