FUNCTION OF WORK:
To supervise the maintenance of the landscaped grounds of a state facility or agency.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Supervisor

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Building Maintenance Superintendent, Horticultural Attendant Superintendent, Horticulturist or other higher level supervisory personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct line over Laborers, Horticultural Attendants, Horticultural Attendant Leaders, equipment operators, students, residents, inmates, or other related personnel.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from the Horticultural Attendant Superintendent by the absence of managerial responsibility.

Differs from the Horticultural Attendant Leader by the presence of direct line supervision over three or more peer subordinates.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Supervises and trains subordinates involved in all aspects of grounds maintenance.

Issues equipment and supplies to subordinates. Purchases necessary replacement parts.

Operates, maintains, and repairs horticultural and irrigation equipment. Trains and supervises subordinates in maintenance of equipment.

Consults with supervisor and other division managers to coordinate jobs. Works with contractors during construction projects.

Keeps records of time and attendance, inventory and related records.

Provides orientation and continuing education to grounds crews.

Performs any related duties necessary to maintain and improve the appearance of the grounds of the agency serviced.

Cleans and maintains swimming pool.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR

Eighteen semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
