FUNCTION OF WORK:To manage veterans assistance programs and office functions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over Veterans Assistance Supervisors. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Veterans Assistance Supervisor by the presence of responsibility for managing veterans assistance programs and office functions.

At this level, incumbents typically serve as regional manager for parish offices in the assigned region.
Prepares news releases and departmental publications.
Analyzes changes in veteran laws and regulations issued by state and federal authorities. Prepares and distributes technical bulletins to keep all employees advised of changes in laws and regulations.
Oversees training for subordinates and coordinates with other managers to ensure consistency. Assesses training needs, identifies resources, establishes priorities, develops training plans, and evaluates results.
Prepares and monitors the budget for the assigned area.
Inspects the parish offices to determine compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Promotes Veterans' Assistance programs by meeting/addressing organizations, civil groups, and public officials.
Reviews the most complex and controversial claims submitted by subordinates.
Assesses staffing needs for parish offices and maintains adequate levels of personnel to ensure operational needs are met.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
A master's degree plus three years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NOTE:
Incumbent may be required to provide a DD-214 as evidence of being an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who served on an active, full-time basis.
