FUNCTION OF WORK:
To operate bus and assist with planning and coordination of long distance trips by athletic teams, bands, or other student groups.

LEVEL OF WORK:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from the Director of the Physical Plant. Head coaches or faculty sponsors of trips exercise functional supervision over driver while on road.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from other vehicle operator, equipment operator, and bus driving jobs by the responsibility for the operation of an Eagle type, rest-room equipped, tour bus for long distance trips and the requirement for assisting with trip planning and routing.

Differs from higher graded equipment operator jobs by the lack of operation of heavy construction or maintenance equipment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Operates large (over 25 passengers), rest-room equipped, diesel powered tour bus on long distance trips.

Selects and plans route of trip, including rest breaks.

Selects time, location, and type of meal stop (fastfood, cafeteria, full service restaurant, etc.) and may be responsible for making meal reservations and payments.

Makes lodging reservations, and assists in getting passengers checked-in and grouping passengers in rooms.

Assists with tickets, luggage, communications, and other aspects of trip.

Plans or assists in planning of free time or relaxation period activities such as visits to historical sites, parks, or shopping centers, or group tours of industrial or government facilities. Serves as a point of contact between the traveling students and the public, presenting a positive public relations image for the University.

Performs user maintenance on the bus (checking fuel and lubricant levels; changing oil, belts, hoses; cleaning restroom).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana commercial driver's license plus one year of experience in the operation of buses or conventional tractor-trailer type trucks.
