FUNCTION OF WORK:
To organize and manage information sources in order to provide access to such information to library users.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad direction from a Deputy Assistant Secretary, Associate Librarian or higher level managerial or administrative personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over lower level Library Managers.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Library Manager 2 by presence of 1)responsibility for serving as a Service Branch Manager, or 2)administrator of a large library.

Differs from Library Consultant by the absence of consultative duties.

Differs from Associate State Librarian by the absence of responsibility for managing the Library Development Division of the State Library.

Serves as administrative head of a major branch of the State Library, such as Technical Services, User Services, or Special Services.

Administers all aspects of a large departmental or special library.

Coordinates and integrates all related activities within a major
organizational element so as to maximize the use of manpower assigned to different smaller components, sections, and units.

Prepares budget requests and sets priorities within the element being managed.

Develops goals and implements procedures designed to achieve them within the element being managed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in library science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association followed by four years of experience in library services.
