FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide enforcement of laws and regulations relative to weights and standards for commercial vehicles at stationary scales.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a DOTD Enforcement Sergeant. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over lower-level DOTD Enforcement Agents and other non-law enforcement staff as related to weights and standards compliance.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Agent 2 by the presence of advanced-level enforcement duties.

Differs from DOTD Enforcement Sergeant by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility over enforcement staff on an assigned shift.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Checks equipment, weights, and permits pertaining to weights and standards enforcement at stationary scales. Trains lower-level personnel in weights and standards laws and regulations.

Writes citations for violations of weights and standards laws and regulations; testifies in court.

Conducts complex investigations of complaints for alleged violations. May serve as investigative lead over lower-level agents and work in an undercover capacity when required.

Coordinates with other law enforcement agencies as necessary to support multi-agency investigations.

Provides security for the assigned station. Identifies and apprehends individuals suspected of criminal activity.

Follows protocols for search and rescue response services. In the absence of a supervisor, leads search and rescue activities as needed.

Completes documents related to enforcement activities such as reports of investigations, inspections, written warnings, citations, affidavits, warrants/search warrants, property receipts/releases, and other information that may be required by the department, commission, district attorneys, U.S. Attorneys or any other entity having oversight of criminal or civil prosecution. May review documents prepared by lower-level agents for training purposes.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of weights and standards law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Four years of any law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment.

Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
