FUNCTION OF WORK:
To learn the basics of law enforcement services in the support of the DOTD police mission to protect the infrastructure of the State Highway System.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from a DOTD Enforcement Sergeant. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Agent by the absence of experienced-level enforcement duties.

Learns about laws and regulations related to equipment, weights, and permits pertaining to weights and standards enforcement for the State Highway System.

Learns about citations for violations of weights and standards laws and regulations.

Learns about how to investigate complaints, write reports, and provide public safety service as related to the infrastructure of the State Highway System.

Learns about law enforcement activities designed to impact public safety, such as protocols for search and rescue response services, as well as emergency response during large-scale events, disasters, and other events with statewide impact.

Under close supervision, completes documents as related to basic enforcement activities that protect the infrastructure of the State Highway System.

Trains for certification in defensive driving, first responder, firearms, defense tactics, traffic crash investigation, field survival, enforcement of weights and standards laws, as well as other related state criminal code as needed. Completes continuing education and recertifies as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
