FUNCTION OF WORK:
Serves as specialist advanced worker in providing protection of life and/or property through enforcement of criminal statutes related to agriculture and forestry lands and activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from an Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Supervisor. May also receive broad direction from an Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Manager during region-wide investigations.

Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Officer 2 by responsibility for the performance of advanced-level duties.

Differs from Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Supervisor by the absence of supervisory responsibility.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Investigates misdemeanor and felony violations, makes arrests, prepares case reports, attends court and presents evidence.

Provides feedback on work of lower level enforcement officers and advises recommended plans of action.

Directs other enforcement officers in special assignments within assigned District, such as special enforcement operations, crime prevention workshops, safety workshops, etc.

Collects, maintains, and analyzes crime statistics to determine if patterns exist.

Conducts special surveillance operations.

Coordinates law enforcement and crime prevention activities with other state, federal, and municipal agencies.

Collects and records information pertinent to enforcement of laws (i.e., brands used by owners of livestock, identifying marks on livestock, fire occurrence dates and times, etc.)

Assists other law enforcement agencies when necessary during emergencies (i.e., communications networks, emergency public information services, preservation of food and water purity, hazardous material control and sampling, etc.).

Trains and participates in the State's Emergency Preparedness Network.

Participates in the Emergency Response Network, when necessary, under the direction of Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest; OR

Three years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest plus two years of experience in the enforcement of agriculture, livestock or forestry laws, rules and regulations; OR

A bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, veterinary science, forestry, or in a biological science or a criminal justice field plus two years of experience in law enforcement or in the enforcement of agriculture, livestock or forestry laws, rules and regulations.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

A drug screen and background check will be administered prior to employment.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
