FUNCTION OF WORK:To oversee a full range of police services on an assigned shift with primary emphasis on the enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over Police Officers 1, 2 and 3.
LOCATION OF WORK:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Police Officer 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities.
Differs from Police Lieutenant by the absence of second-line supervisory responsibilities or by serving as shift supervisor in a large university police department.

Oversees and evaluates performance of lower-level officers on an assigned shift.
Conducts roll call and officer, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
Serves as training officer by planning and coordinating training programs.
Reviews and signs all reports submitted by lower-level officers.
Keeps firearms, armory, and other equipment.
Performs all the duties required of lower-level officers as necessary.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
