NOTE: In order to provide adequate coverage and services to meet the internal demands and the demands of all clients, persons occupying these positions will be crossed trained to perform any of the listed examples of work and may be called upon to work in any of the programs within the Archives Division.
Appraises records for archival value and/or relevance of such records to the programs of other agencies and institutions.
Review inventories incoming and exiting archival collections for accuracy.
Prepares evaluations on collections to determine authenticity and historical significance.
Identifies and documents preservation problems and, in consultation with Conservation Section, develops plans for the timely repair and preservation of affected documents.
Assists in the drafting of rules and procedures governing the availability, duplication, citation, and research use of archival records.
Arranges transfer of archival records from other state agencies, parish governments, and municipal entities to the Division of Archives. Appraises records upon arrival for content and condition.
Performs reference and research concerning historical events, collections and genealogy; answers inquiries and furnishes information relating to historical collections and assists the public in locating informational materials.
Conducts on site visits of state agencies, parish governments, and municipal entities to evaluate and assist with their records management needs.
Conducts record management seminars and workshops with governmental agencies.
Responsible for the maintenance of the archival repository to guarantee all records are maintained according to recognized archival guidelines.
Determines feasibility and requirements for microfilming records for state agencies and others, including preparing cost estimates for each project; investigates the various micrographic systems available and recommends the most suitable methods to use.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
An advanced degree in a social science or humanities field.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
