FUNCTION OF WORK:To enforce all state laws, rules and regulations on a facility operated by the Office of State Parks and provide assistance to visitors.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Close from a Park Manager or other official or higher level.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:None, although on small sites the incumbent may oversee the maintenance crew as needed.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of State Parks. May be used by other organizations with approval from the Department of State Civil Service. (such as the Sabine River Authority).
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Park Ranger 2 by the lack of journeyman level responsibility and authority.
Differs from other law enforcement jobs by the confinement of work area to facilities operated by the Office of State Parks.

Explains rules and regulations to park visitors for the purpose of protecting and preserving natural, historic, and cultural features, sites and structures.
Prepares and maintains various records and reports pertaining to park activities.
Performs general painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and related trades work as required.
Cleans and supplies restrooms, removes refuse from trash receptacles and grounds, and performs other general clean-up functions.
Operates numerous power tools, trucks and other equipment.
Collects and accounts for fees.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No specialized experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application.
2. Willingness and ability to carry firearms.
3. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
4. No physical disablements which would prevent the functioning as a law enforcement officer.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
