Step-by-Step Hiring Resources:
ACCOUNTANT MANAGER 2

Step 1: Choose your competencies

Start with the skills that matter most. Use the Louisiana Competency Model to identify the competencies that define success for the job.

What to do

  • Select at least 3 core competencies.
  • You may select up to 7 additional core and/or preferred competencies.
  • For positions not required to use the SCS Hiring Framework, you may select up to 10 preferred competencies.

Tips

  • SCS recommends selecting 10 competencies, when possible, to provide greater flexibility when building interview questions, activities, and evaluation tools.
  • You do not need to advertise all selected competencies in the job posting. Agencies may choose to include only those most critical to the role.
  • However, any competency used for competency-based supplemental questions must be included in the job posting.

Step 6: Decide. Make data-driven hiring decisions

Decide with confidence, no guesswork, just clear results you can trust. Structured Interview Tools (SIT) bring all panelist scores together in one easy-to-read table, giving you a side-by-side view of how each candidate is rated by the interview panel.

The Summary tab helps move from spreadsheet to insight. It helps to turn interview results into a clear visual summary that help you make confident, evidence-based hiring decisions.

What to do

  • Review the summary tab from each automated interview tool.
  • Identify top talent. Highlighted individuals represent quality candidates.
  • Review the results with the hiring panel to confirm your selections to ensure every decision is fair, consistent, and supported by real data.
